The 2004 Camp Experience
This page shows our Summer, 2004 Transition and Inclusion Camp. Students with various types of disabilities attended the camp, including those with mobility impairments, learning disabilities, and Asperger's Syndrome. Below are a series of pictures taken by camp staff. Campers are engaged in various activities, both recreational and informational.
We tried to organize activities in such a way that each day contained an equal amount of "work" and play. Below are two images of some of the campers at "work." In the first, Michael Whitney demonstrates brain wave technology; campers are playing Pong utilizing only the minute muscles above their eyebrows. In the second, a Recreation Center Staff member takes campers on a tour and explains Rec. Center services.

The Transition Camp was a fun experience also, including many recreational and social activities.
Participants were able to interact with many people during the week of the camp, including university staff, student employees hired specifically for the camp (many of whom were peers with disabilities), and most importantly other campers with disabilities. This interaction was instrumental in making campers feel comfortable and able to realize a true college experience.
