The 2006 Camp Experience
The 2006 Transition and Inclusion Camp was held from June 19 - 23, 2006, on the SIUC campus. Once again, a variety of students with disabilities attended and a full week of learning and fun were experienced by all.
Nothing but smiles as campers arrive and check into their rooms at Thompson Point.
The first afternoon included campus tours, recreational events and a BBQ at the campus boat dock.
The week included many training sessions in areas such as campus safety, the admissions process, effective studying habits, etc. New this year was an expanded session on practical career choices for students with disabilities offered by Pam Folger, Director of the Career and Experiential Education Center at Millikin University. This session was exceptionally well received and will most likely be expanded upon for future camps.
Another addition this year was individualizing training components of the adapted computer technology sessions. Not only were students given an over-view of all adapted technologies available, but each student could also be individually assessed and trained in the areas that most suited their needs. The adapted computer technology sessions are always very popular with students.

The arts and crafts and recreational opportunities offered were lots of fun for all. Many of the campers got to experience these things for the first time ever.
And, as always, many new friends were made during the week. Students left the camp with a much better understanding of what college life is all about.
